Frequently asked questions about Corian Cutting Boards:
Corian is an acrylic based substance. It is considered a solid surface material making it resistant to stains, odors and germs.
Corian is the same material throughout. You are able to use it safely as a cutting board and it is highly resistant. In the event you want to freshen up the board and remove minor scratches you can do so with light sanding using a fine sand-paper. Since the material is consistant throughout the depth of the board there will be no color change..
No. The inlay is made from the same principal material as the board We route out the pattern approximately 1/4" into the 1/2" board. If you have any minor scratches you are still able to lightly sand and not lose the integrity of the design or colors.
Washing with hot water and dish detergent will keep your board clean. No harsh chemicals are needed to sanitize the board.
Corian Cutting Boards can be used as a serving platter, trivets for hot pots, and can also be chilled for serving hor's d'oeuvres The larger boards have a nice surface for rolling dough or making candy.
The Corian pieces we use for making the cutting boards and other items are purchased from a private fabricator. These pieces are usually too small to be used for their business so we reclaim the material and use them in ours. This prevents it from going to a landfill. We feel it is important option in helping the World be a Greener place.
The item is not complete. Sometimes we like to take photos during the process and post them for folks to see what we are currently working on.
Some of the raw footage would be drawings on the boards in blue or black ink. These are used as guides for Greg to route the design by. He cleans them up as he cuts.
A faint pattern in the board is usually one that the routing has been done, yet the inlay has not been set yet.
There are several steps some repeated to create a cutting board with inlay including several sanding processes and the final which is polishing.
